Maybelline Faces Boycott Over Partnership with Transgender Activist

Cosmetic brand Maybelline faced backlash on social media after partnering with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, a biological male, to promote its products. The controversy started when Mulvaney posted a video on TikTok applying Maybelline makeup in March.

The hashtag #BoycottMaybelline started trending on Twitter, with users expressing their dissatisfaction with the brand’s partnership with Mulvaney. Many users accused Maybelline of betraying women’s rights and promoting the “degradation of women.” Some claimed that the brand had lost its focus on women and was now more focused on the transgender community. The boycott campaign against Maybelline follows a similar one against Anheuser-Busch, which confirmed a partnership with Mulvaney.

Other Brands May Be Next

Mulvaney, a male who identified as a woman, and transgender activist, has reportedly made over $1 million by promoting various brands on social media, as per the New York Post. Mulvaney’s endorsement deals span a wide range of products, from fashion and skincare to grocery shopping, and include popular companies such as Aritzia, CeraVe, Crest, Haus Labs, Instacart, K18 Hair, Kate Spade, KIND Snacks, KitchenAid, Ole Henriksen, Rent the Runway, and Ulta Beauty. Along with these brands, Mulvaney also previously partnered with Anheuser-Busch and Nike, both of which have faced backlash over their collaboration with the influencer.

Country Stars and Consumers Join Boycott Campaign Against Anheuser-Busch

Reports surfaced that sales of Bud Light plummeted by 17% following the company’s partnership with Mulvaney. This resulted in country stars such as John Rich, Travis Tritt, and Kid Rock announcing their decision to boycott Anheuser-Busch over the controversy. John Rich tweeted about replacing Bud Light with another beer at his bar in Nashville.

Tritt announced that he would be removing all Anheuser-Busch products from his tour hospitality rider, and Kid Rock posted a video showing him shooting several cases of Bud Light, with a caption that reads, “F*** Bud Light. And f*** Anheuser-Busch.” The controversy prompted Alissa Heinerscheid, the Bud Light executive behind the decision to partner with Mulvaney, to take a leave of absence. She was replaced by Todd Allen, parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev’s global marketing VP. Daniel Blake, a top marketing executive for the company’s mainstream brands, was also placed on leave over the incident.

The ongoing Bud Light boycotts and possible boycotts to follow show that very few Americans support brands being overly political and misguided. Companies are under increasing pressure to take a stance on social issues, but this comes with the risk of alienating some customers who disagree with their views.

  2. After Elon’s big rocket blew up, he called it an “unplanned disassembly.”

The real problem is that he christened it with the Queen of Beers.

  3. olay and maybelline are using HIM as a sponsor. They have in just a couple of weeks decimated the REAL woman. I have used both products for 30 or more years. Not that they care, but no more. There are far too many other products to use that believe in REAL women.

  4. Looks like a whole bunch of companies don’t wanna be companies anymore – go woke, go broke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any true female that would patronize these companies have NO respect for themselves>
