Republican Senator Ted Cruz from Texas has criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment of former President Donald Trump over alleged hush money payments. In his podcast “Verdict” with co-host Ben Ferguson, Cruz called the indictment “outrageous,” describing it as a political vendetta brought by a left-wing partisan Democrat elected by George Soros.
“This is not law. This is not a prosecution based on facts,” Cruz said. He added that the case is frivolous and will fall apart in court. The senator also expressed concern that Trump’s indictment sets a dangerous precedent that could lead to U.S. presidents getting indicted in the future.
Trump to be Arraigned in Manhattan Court on Tuesday
According to court officials, Trump will be arraigned in a Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday afternoon. His attorney, Joe Tacopina, said that he does not expect his client to be handcuffed when he turns himself in and that Trump will not take a plea deal on this case.
Political Gift to Donald Trump
Cruz believes that the indictment is devastating to the rule of law and the confidence the American people have in the justice system. However, he also sees it as an enormous political gift to Donald Trump. He said that the indictment is just the opening “salvo” in presidents getting indicted, and this puts America on a bad road.
Lessons from History
Cruz recalled the history of former President Richard Nixon, who committed multiple crimes, including obstruction of justice and abuse. Cruz said that even though he is not a Nixon fan, when Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon, it probably cost him his election. Ford did it because he believed he was helping the country, and having a trial of the former president would be deeply harmful.
Cruz criticized the indictment and expressed concern about its impact on the rule of law and American democracy. He hopes that this will not be a trend in the future and that leaders will focus on solving the pressing issues that the country is facing.
This is all a deflection from the fact evidence has been found that the biden family has taken money from China, Russia and Ukraine. This takes the biden crime family off the front page.
