Don Lemon Speaks Out for the First Time Since CNN Exit
CNN anchor Don Lemon, who was recently let go from the network, spoke out for the first time since his announcement on Monday. Lemon spoke to reporters on the red carpet at the TIME 100 Summit Gala in New York on Wednesday evening.
Despite admitting that the news had come as a surprise, Lemon was calm and appeared to be taking the situation in stride, attempting to not harp on his downfall as a former primetime host which resulted in him becoming a morning talk show host, then eventually being fired from CNN after over a decade of working at the network. He told reporters that his immediate plans included spending some time on the beach with his partner and the people who mattered most to him saying:
“Life goes on. That’s behind me, and we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Lemon’s Response to Losing His Job
When reporters asked Lemon about losing his job, he responded by putting things into perspective. He spoke about the loss of his sister in 2018 and stated that a job was not as important as a person. Lemon said that he knew what was truly important in life and that he was grateful for the people he had in it.
Lemon’s Future Plans
Lemon also stated that he intended to take some time off and enjoy the summer. He wanted to have fun and not worry about serious things for the time being. He said that he was going to have the summer of a 12-year-old, which suggested that he intended to make the most of his free time, and essentially live as if he were on summer vacation from school.
Lemon’s Influence at CNN
When asked about his influence at CNN, Lemon was humble and replied that reporters should ask his colleagues about that. He did not elaborate on his role or influence at the network, suggesting that he did not want to draw too much attention to himself, which is a change of pace for the often controversial and dramatic network host.
Lemon’s Exit in Comparison to Tucker Carlson’s
Lemon’s exit from CNN came just hours after he had co-hosted the show “CNN This Morning” for the last time. Sirius XM radio shock jock Howard Stern noted that Lemon may have benefited from the fact that Tucker Carlson was fired from Fox News on the same day. Carlson has also been spotted since his exit, enjoying a rare weeknight dinner with his wife and jokingly stating that retirement was going great so far.
Legal Matters Related to Lemon’s Exit
It has been reported that Lemon, along with Tucker Carlson, has retained counsel to negotiate matters related to their respective exits, as well as determine how to respond to their remaining contracts. Details about what those negotiations entail have not been made public.
