On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill fast-tracked through the chamber to sign into law that “Juneteenth” is a national holiday, commemorating the end of slavery in America.

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate, while it had 14 Republicans voting against it in the House of Representatives.

After he voted against the bill, Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) said in a statement, “I cannot support efforts that furthers racial divisions in this country. We have one Independence Day, and it applies equally to all people of all races.”

After the bill’s passage, the Congressional Black Caucus sewed more division, as Gosar feared, by signing the “Black National Anthem,” a song called “Lift Every Voice and Sing” instead of the “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the United States’ anthem, which represents all Americans.
