The Trump Campaign and Republican Party committees from the national and state level filed a lawsuit yesterday against Montana Governor Steve Bullock (D).
Bullock allowed Montana counties to vote entirely by mail on August 6. He’s also embroiled in a hotly-contested race to defeat incumbent GOP Senator Steve Daines.
The Trump Campaign, Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Montana GOP have intervened, asking a federal district court to block the implementation of Bullock’s order, which the suit describes as an openly political move.

The Washington Free Beacon’s Collin Anderson reports:
“The Governor’s power grab under the cover of COVID-19 is particularly egregious. The Governor is running for U.S. Senate as a member of the Democratic Party, and his race is one of the most competitive in the country,” the suit says. “He is using his current position to force a brand-new election system on Montanans that, according to his own party, will sway the election in his favor.”
Bullock called the challenge a “template lawsuit.”
“Voting by mail in Montana is safe, secure, and was requested by a bipartisan coalition of Montana election officials seeking to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and keep Montanans safe and healthy,” Bullock told the Washington Free Beacon. “This is the same directive that the Republican President of the Senate and Republican Speaker of the House said was the right thing to do for the June primary. Today, we have many more active cases of COVID-19 than we did back in June.”
Bullock’s order allows counties to determine their own vote-by-mail and early voting measures, creating a “patchwork election code with no uniform procedures,” according to RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. While Montana’s current vote-by-mail system requires voters to request a ballot, Bullock’s order allows counties to send unsolicited ballots to all registered voters.
The race may determine which party holds the Senator Majority after Election Day. The Cook Political Report considers it a toss-up.

Bullock doesn’t have the authority to change voting laws. This is a blatant political move to steal the Senate election. The court should stop this outrage.

Anyone who wants to vote by mail can already get an absentee ballot using COVID-19 as the reason. There is no need for new rules. There is enough room for fraud with the existing system. Mailing out ballots to everyone on the voter list instead of only mailing them to people who ASK for them is a system that screams: “Abuse me!!”

Bullock is doing something extremely crooked. If people can wait in line at the grocery store, the bank, doctors’ offices, liquor store…then they can darn well wait in line to vote. There’s “early” voting folks so do that if you don’t want to go to the polls on November 3rd. The only honest vote by mail is asking for an absentee ballot which has to be verified. Bullock is definitely crooked and creating his own rules so he can win. Throw the bum out…. He shouldn’t even be in politics.

Montana has only “in-person absentee” early voting, which means that to vote early, you have to go to the elections office.
However, isn’t this change a prerogative of the legislature, not the governor? I imagine that’s what the suit will allege. Especially if the governor is running for office. I hope the judge will rule on the basis of law, not political pressure!
