The Trump administration suddenly withdrew the nomination of Chuck Canterbury to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives after gun owners pounded Capitol Hill with phone calls and letters opposing his anti-gun record.
“The former president of the Fraternal Order of Police was nominated last year, but the appointment has been stalled because of conservative concerns over his views on gun rights,” POLITICO reports. “The Senate Judiciary Committee put his nomination on ice last year after those complaints began to emerge. Trump renominated Canterbury in February.”
“Canterbury had led an organization which supported Universal Gun Registries,” Gun Owners of America told supporters in a September alert to members. “He supports ‘red flag’ gun confiscation orders and has indicated he is open to supporting a ban on semi-automatic firearms — the so-called Assault Weapons ban.”
“Canterbury also stated that he would “be happy” to work with Senator Feinstein to draft “red flag” gun confiscation language,” GOA also noted. “When pressed, he even opposed Senator Cornyn’s Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity bill, S. 69—a bill which has 37 Republican cosponsors.”
The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) “warned its members and supporters of Canterbury’s radical anti-gun views,” NAGR announced on Facebook. “Canterbury was on the record supporting the nomination of anti-gun Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, supporting a so-called ‘assault weapons’ ban, and opposed pro-gun Constitutional Carry legislation.”
“We’re glad the committee listened to our 4.5 million members and supporters by grilling Canterbury for his past support of the ‘assault weapons’ ban,” said NAGR President Dudley Brown. “We encourage the White House and Congress to take the next step and dismantle this failed agency once and for all.”
Trump has not named a new nominee.

This is the first I’ve even heard of this. I spend a lot of time on gun sites, and have noticed that their email notifications suddenly stop for no reason, like ammoland, NRA, GOA, etc. I expect that there is far more censorship going on than we are being told.

There is the shadow censorship that aol uses. I can write a post there and see it but if I click away and then go back, Poof, it’s gone. The left doesn’t like you if you argue logic with them.

Why in the world would you want a gun grabbing dirtbag as director of the ATF ??? I think Trump has done a tremendous job, in spite of all the obstruction, but I don’t understand this nomination.
