The city of San Jose California has now passed a new law that will require all gun owners to purchase expensive insurance and pay a ‘Gun Owner Fee’ in order to own a firearm within city limits.
As NBC Bay Area reports:
Weeks after a gunman shot and killed nine people at a VTA rail yard, the San Jose City Council is taking steps it hopes will help reduce gun violence and the costs to taxpayers.
It voted Tuesday to establish a yet-to-be-determined gun owner fee to help cover the cost of gunshot-related police and ambulance response and medical treatment.

The council also approved requiring gun owners to purchase liability insurance…
Violators of the new laws could have their guns taken away. The police chief says enforcement would be limited.
Though the new law is almost certainly unconstitutional and is likely to face a slew of legal challenges it illustrates once again the illegal and unconstitutional lengths the radical left is willing to go to in order to disarm law abiding Americans.
And I’m sure all the gang-bangers and other criminal element will be sure to sign-up for this new insurance on all their legally owned guns. Oh wait, their guns are illegally owned so I guess they might have a bit of hesitancy to comply, just a little I imagine. If you didn’t get it this was a sarcastic statement! 😉

Any law the government intends to enact should be required to meet Constitutional requirements, before being voted on. If not done this way, all court cases that come from it and the government looses, must pay all legal costs of the plaintive, even appeals. These liberal cities make these laws to force their agendas, hoping that people will comply, without legal challenges, because of the costs, the public won’t bring a law suit. Most States have laws that cities can not make a law stronger than the State has enacted. These new city laws seem to fall into the category! Encourage the citizens not to accept then as Constitutional and take them to court.

There is another solution to that in San Jose, the people that live there can elect new members to their City Council with the intent to reverse the law, but of course that would require that they vote against “feel good” law that is ineffectual and unconstitutional.
