According to new reports the story of the last stand of 13 brave Ukrainian soldiers who cursed out the Russian navy before being killed for refusing to surrender, a story which was breathlessly repeated in mainstream media outlets and went viral on social media, was a complete fabrication.

In reality, it appears the defenders of snake island are actually alive and surrendered to Russian forces.

As BBC News reports:

Ukraine’s navy says the 13 soldiers believed to have been killed defending Zmiinyi (Snake) Island on the first day of the Russian invasion are alive.

The border guards were given posthumous honours by the president after they were heard in audio recordings telling a Russian warship to “go to hell”.

On Monday, the Ukrainian Naval Forces confirmed in a Facebook post that “our brothers-in-arms are alive and well”.
A Russian defence ministry spokesman announced on Friday that 82 Ukrainian servicemen “laid down their weapons and voluntarily surrendered” on Zmiinyi Island, without mentioning whether the Russian warship carried out any strikes or inflicted casualties.
Both Ukraine and Russia have overrun many social media sites with war time propaganda which, in many cases, has exaggerated enemy losses while undercounting there own. In addition to the fabrication of outright fictions, such as the snake island story.

  1. it’s war, if you expect straight up news reporting and honest, unembillished government info dissemination you’re a naive bunch there. And, if you choose sides on whose propaganda to fight against, you need to say so or lose whatever credibility you had.

  2. Who writes this garbage? Supporters of Putin? I’m finding these supposed conservative email newsletters to mostlY be regurgitated MSM bilge. I’d like to know who sold my email to these outfits?

    1. Jon, thank you for your post. You literally took the words right out of my mouth. And, to top it off, when posters state truth, they hold the comments.

    2. If you are able to access a satellite or two you can see everything down below, and if you don’t believe the stories, then try to book a flight to Ukraine, in fact book your next g to flight to Russia

  3. So what if the point of this article. In the fog of war men were mistakenly reported as killed and then the Ukrainian navy corrected the report. You would be well advised to go back to the Durham court filing stating that Hillary spied on Dufus Twospurs. After you have read the court filing please extract and publish the citations of Hillary spying on Dufuis. If you report that you have found them then that would truly be fake news.

    1. Are you “DaNang Dick’s” relative? You sound the same. Guess you’re a war hero, too!

  4. “In war, Truth is the 1st casualty.” (Aeschylus). Okay, we get it, but Ukrainians need a rallying cry to show might, loyalty, and – if necessary – personal sacrifice. Hard to watch a father kiss his son goodbye at a train station. Father (not a soldier) is choosing to remain to fight.

  5. Nobody wants to die, so what if it was a hoax.
They still said what they said, and the Russians are in fact invading Ukraine.
