The Kabul airport and an important hotel previously used to evacuate American citizens have now both been rocked by massive suicide attacks with reports of ongoing gunfire and mass casualties.
#AFG Explosion took place outside of the eastern gate of airport and gunfire is underway. There are casualties and fatalities, multiple eye witnesses tells me.

According to multiple sources, at least three US troops were injured in the attack at the airport with the severity the injuries still being unclear.
Now told at least two explosions. One included vehicle-borne IED. Also small arms fire.

In addition, there are now reports that up to four US Service members may have been killed or wounded in the attacks:
The State Department Ops Center issued an alert to staff stating: "Initial reports suggest four or more U.S. service personnel may have been injured or killed in the explosion at HKIA." Attack occurred at 17:11 local time and is "believed to have been a suicide vest attack"

Sky News is also reporting that at least 13 people have been killed in the blasts, that number is expected to rise in the coming hours:
At least 13 people have been killed in an explosion outside Kabul airport, a Taliban official has told Reuters news agency.
Children are among those killed and Taliban guards have been wounded, the spokesperson said.

Update: there are now reports that US civilians may now be among the dead and wounded:
We can confirm that the explosion at the Abbey Gate was the result of a complex attack that resulted in a number of US & civilian casualties. We can also confirm at least one other explosion at or near the Baron Hotel, a short distance from Abbey Gate. We will continue to update.
