Republican Dino Rossi won on Election Day in the 2004 Washington gubernatorial election – and in two subsequent recounts – before losing in the third recount to incumbent Christine Gregoire after more ballots were found in King County (Seattle). Despite a meager 133 vote lead for Gregoire, there were no more recounts afterward.
