A new public elementary school in suburban San Francisco will be named in honor of an illegal immigrant, Jose Antonio Vargas.

Vargas is also an award-winning journalist, documentary filmmaker, and activist.

The local school board was inspired, in part, to name the school after Vargas in response to recent coverage on immigrant detention centers near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Too bad the school board didn’t follow our reporting for a complete picture:

SF Gate reports:

“We are living through an ugly and hateful time in our country when immigrant families are under constant attack, even at schools,” said Patricia Hyland, who chairs Define American’s board of trustees and was Vargas’ former principal at Mountain View High School. “The district’s decision is an affirmation of American values and our belief in opening our doors of opportunities to all kinds of dreamers.”

Most recently, Vargas founded and runs a nonprofit media organization designed to “fight injustice and anti-immigrant hate through the power of storytelling.”

  1. This school was named after just another alien Mexican who sneaked in and still doesn’t belong here. How are good American citizens living in the City always beaten by hippie low-lives and freaks of all stripes in every election? It’s too bad the Giants have to exist in such a filthy environment.

  2. If you look at the precinct map of California, you will see (contrary to the picture usually painted of it by the Fake News purveyors) that it is a predominantly Red state, the Democratic controlled areas being confined to about 450 miles of coastline (Orange County to north of Marin), most of it less than 20 miles deep, save around LA and the Bay Area (plus Sacramento and a razor thin corridor between it and Vallejo). It is not, in short, as NBC painted it, a “Blue State with a Red Dot” (in the Central Valley) but rather a “Red State with a Lunatic Fringe”. BUT, here’s the good news – almost all of “Crazy-fornia”/”Commie-fornia”/”Clinton-fornia” (pick a name) lies to the west of the San Andreas (and associated fault systems). One good shake and the nuttiness disappears into the Pacific. Let us hope for a merciful God and “the BIG ONE”, the sooner the better.
