Feminist protesters “aborted” Jesus last week—during a graphic mock abortion of a woman dressed up as the Virgin Mary.

A photo released from the protest, which was held in front of a cathedral in Tucuman, Argentina, shows a woman dressed as a heavily-pregnant “Virgin Mary,” complete with a pale blue veil. She’s smiling and triumphantly raising her fist, as blood and body parts gush down her legs.

“Mary” is also flanked by other protesters in the infamous pink “pussy hats” that were first worn in the large Women’s March protests the day after President Trump’s inauguration.

The protest in Tucuman came as part of International Women’s Day—a former Soviet holiday that spurned protesters around the world last Wednesday. In the United States, for example, feminists encouraged women to stay home from work—to show the country a “day without women.”

Catholics, however, were livid about the tasteless feminist protest—including the Archbishop of Tucuman, Alfredo Zecca, who formally condemned it.

“It is with great sadness that we read about this highly offensive protest in Argentina,” said Maureen Ferguson of The Catholic Association, to pro-life news outlet LifeSiteNews. “It is gravely disrespectful to mock the faith of billions of people in the woman whom National Geographic recently described as ‘The Most Powerful Woman in the World’ in its cover story on the Virgin Mary. It is also highly ironic for a feminist march protesting femicide to advocate for the right to take human lives, including the lives of female babies. Annually about 25 million little girls are aborted worldwide.”

Jeanne Mancini, the president of March for Life, which annually mobilizes hundreds of thousands of pro-life activists to protest on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., similar condemned the protest. “This scenario serves to remind us that we have our work cut out for us.”

She added: “It is symbolic of the painful confusion in our culture regarding the inherent dignity and vocation of woman. In particular, it shows a deep misunderstanding and lack of appreciation that a woman’s capacity for motherhood is a beautiful gift to be treasured, not a liability and not a right either. Thankfully Mary, mother of Jesus, was courageous despite her difficult circumstance and said yes to motherhood and the miracle of life.”
