Amid concerns America’s military is being weaponized to advance left-wing goals, legal watchdog group is suing the United States Air Force for information on how the confidential military records of a conservative congressional candidate were leaked to a liberal activist group.
Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense for information on the improper release of the personnel records of Anna Paulina Luna by the U.S. Air Force to a political opposition research firm employed by Democrat Party organizations during the 2022 election cycle.
Luna was one of at least 11 Republican congressional candidates, all Air Force veterans, whose confidential records were improperly given to the research firm Due Diligence Group.
“The USAF leaked information of USAF candidates in the 2022 midterms to a DEMOCRAT OPPO research firm,” Luna tweeted on February 27, 2023. “Yes, I also have reason to believe my records were leaked. This is likely going to be a criminal investigation.”
Luna, then a Republican candidate for Congress, won her race and now represents Florida’s 13th Congressional District.
“The Biden Air Force improperly disclosed confidential personnel files on candidates opposing Democrats, such Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. Judicial Watch filed this lawsuit because this abuse may be a crime and now the Biden administration is trying to cover up the scandal,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Judicial Watch reports they filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after the Air Force failed to comply with a March 7, 2023 FOIA request for:
- All personnel records of Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, including unmodified original digital documents, released to any individual or entity from January 1, 2019 to March 7, 2023
- All records, including but not limited to communications, FOIA requests, and SF-180requests, concerning or relating to the release of personnel records of Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, to any individual or entity from January 1, 2019 to March 6, 2023.
- All records of administrative or punitive action taken against any individuals involved with the release of personnel records of Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January 1, 2019 to March 7, 2023 .
- All reports of investigation concerning or relating to the release of personnel records of Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky.
- All communications with any representative or employee of The New York Times concerning or relating to Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January1, 2019 to March 7, 2023.
- All communications with any representative or employee of Due Diligence Group, LLC (“DDG”) concerning or relating to Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January 1, 2019 to March 7, 2023.
- All communications with any representative or employee of The Washington Post concerning or relating to Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January1, 2019 to March 7, 2023.
- All communications with any representative or employee of The Associated Press concerning or relating to Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January 1, 2019 to March 7, 2023.
- All communications with any representative or employee of Politico concerning or relating to Anna Paulina Luna, also known as Anna Paulina Mayerhofer and/or Anna Paulina Gamberzky, from January 1, 2019 to March 7, 2023.
According to the Washington Examiner:
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign, which seeks to elect Democrats to the Senate, gave the Due Diligence Group $173,000 during the 2022 election cycle as well as another three payments of more than $30,000 after the election, according to the Federal Election Commission.
Additionally, the political research firm received more than $110,000 from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee between January 2021 and December 2022, filings show.
