The “do as I say, not as I do” Democrat governor of California was caught in another scandal of his own making after his son was photographed maskless indoors while playing with other bare faced children in defiance of the state’s mask guidance.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s latest COVID hypocrisy headache came on Monday when his ten-year-old son appeared in since-deleted posts on the summer camp’s Instagram account. The images drew the ire of Reopen California Schools, a group suing the governor over the state’s requirement for students to wear masks in classrooms this fall.
“This is in clear violation of his own mask mandates. Why can his kid be maskless, but not ours?” Reopen California Schools tweeted. “The Instagram post occurs as Newsom pushes for increased vaccine rates if we ever want to be rid of masks.”
Despite CDC guidance that vaccinated students and teachers could go maskless, California health officials announced that face coverings would be required in classrooms, regardless of vaccination status, to allow for full in-person instruction in the upcoming school year.
Newsom responded to the controversy by yanking his kids from the camp on Tuesday. “The Newsoms were concerned to see unvaccinated children unmasked indoors at a camp their children began attending yesterday,” the governor’s communications director Erin Mellon remarked in a statement. “Their kids will no longer be attending the camp.”
However, a copy of the camp’s mask policy that had reportedly been sent to parents prior to the start of the summer session appeared on social media later that day. The policy states: “Masks will not be enforced. Please know that your child is more than welcome to wear a mask during camp.”
In an updated statement, Mellon said the Newsom’s claimed they didn’t see the email about the camp’s mask policy. “The family reviewed communication from the camp and realized that an email was missed saying the camp would not enforce masking guidance.”
Under California’s current mask guidance, children 2-11 must wear masks while attending “camps for youth, youth sports and other youth activities, including theater and music performances and band.”
“We support this summer basketball camp’s approach of having each family determine their own masking situation,” the Reopen California Schools tweeted. “The real problem is Newsom’s own family having mask choice, while he forces a different policy on every other kid in California.”
He got caught! That’s why he pulled the kids. Had no photos shown up…they’d still be there. He’s as bad as his auntie Pisslosi

Second, let’s highlight the lie that the Newsom’s didn’t get the email spelling out the camp’s mask guidelines/requirements. If you are the Governor of California making all these restrictive mask orders, you don’t wait to see whether or not the camp sends you something on their mask policy–especially if you are being recalled!
