Democrat presidential candidate and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg endorsed a legal and Christian religious standard for abortions that would allow doctors to take a live-born infant from the delivery room and abort her, claiming the policy is backed by God Himself.

Appearing on the nationally-syndicated morning radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Buttigieg claimed that abortion up until the moment a child took her first breath is not just morally defensible, but backed by Christian faith.

In a discussion on just how late abortion should be legal, Buttigieg said that on the “cosmic question on how life begins,” some sort of “line” must be drawn.

“[Pro-life Christians] hold everybody in line with this one, kind of piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally,” said Buttigieg. “Then again, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath, and so even that is something that we can interpret differently.”

Allowing abortion up until the moment of first breath would legalize post-birth abortion.

In many cases a child does not take his or her first breath until after he or she is born, the umbilical cord cut and doctors clear his or her lungs and airways on a separate table.

Under Buttigieg’s standard, doctors could deliver a live baby, cut her umbilical cord, and then abort her.

It’s the second time this year a major elected Democrat has endorsed post-birth abortion on a radio show.

In a Jan. 2019 appearance on D.C.-area WTOP’s “Ask The Governor,” Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said abortion should still be an option even after a live birth.

Asked about a bill in the Virginia House of Delegates to allow third trimester abortions, which the bill’s Democrat sponsor Del. Kathy Tran admitted would allow women to change their minds during birth and abort the delivering baby, Northam said he backed abortion even after birth.

“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” said Northam, a trained physician. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” referring to the decision to abort the live-born child.
