Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday invoked her appreciation for Doritos while inarticulately discussing “innovation” at an artificial intelligence (AI) conference.
Harris previously binged on Doritos in dismay after former President Donald Trump secured the presidency in 2016, according to a 2024 campaign email. At the HumanX conference, Harris recounted how she recently ordered Doritos on DoorDash to eat while watching the Oscars, apparently tying it to other aspects of “innovation.”

“We did DoorDash ’cause I wanted Doritos. And the red carpet part was about to start and nobody wanted to leave to go to the grocery store,” Harris said. “So it was DoorDash … So I was willing to give up whatever might be the tracking of Kamala Harris’ particular fondness for nacho cheese Doritos for the sake of getting a big bag of Doritos as I watched the Oscars.”
Feedzai CEO Nuno Sebastiao, who led the conversation, said that what the former vice president was discussing was an example of “consumer behavior.”
“And that’s right. But here’s the thing. At what point do we also uplift and highlight the consumer’s right to also expect — and you can debate with me if it should be a right — I think it should,” Harris continued. “To expect that the innovation would also be weighted in terms of solving their everyday problems, which are beyond my craving for Doritos, but about whatever — and I know the work is happening — around, you know, scientific discoveries, for example. To cure long-standing diseases.”
“But I’m going to throw out another one … I would love it if there would be an investment of resources in solving the affordable housing issue in America,” she added. “Like help me with that. Help me with that.”
Political pundits warned during Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign that her word salad responses during interviews could be a significant issue.
For instance, in a Sept. 13 interview with 6ABC Philadelphia’s “Action News,” the former vice president struggled to articulate how she intends to make life more affordable for Americans, instead discussing her middle-class upbringing and lawns.
Harris also gave a word salad in February while delivering a speech to inspire actors who are concerned about President Donald Trump’s administration during a visit to Broadway
