Republican strategist Scott Jennings has often driven liberals on CNN crazy in 2024, sometimes through asking a single question, other times by calling them out.
Since former President Donald Trump secured the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency early in the morning of Nov. 6, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, Jennings has had multiple viral moments. On air leading up to the election, Jennings has reminded liberals that Americans voted against “the expected” when they elected Trump. Here are five moments where Jennings delivered jabs that left CNN talking heads .
Nov. 14: Jennings Calls Out Prominent Anti-Trump Republican
Former Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan of Georgia endorsed Harris after previously announcing support for President Joe Biden. In a Nov. 14 segment on “CNN NewsNight,” Jennings and Duncan debated some of Trump’s nominations of former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii to serve as director of national intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to serve as secretary of health and human services.
WATCH:
“He won the election. He did a great job of being the mouthpiece of all things that bothered people without having to deliver solutions,” Duncan claimed. “But the problem now, he’s in the job, he is going to be the president… and he has no solutions. None.”
“Extend the tax cuts, fight for American workers, get the immigration system under control, stop spending out of control out of the federal budget, lower inflation, also unleash American energy,” Jennings said in response to Duncan’s claim, adding after further back-and-forth, “You want it to fail.”
Nov. 18: After Jennings Calls BS On Anti-Trump Rhetoric, A CNN Panelist Goes On A Tangent
In the waning days of the campaign, Harris and her running mate, Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, escalated attacks on Trump, with the vice president devoting a major speech on Oct. 30 to attacking the former president as a “petty tyrant” days after calling Trump a “fascist” during a CNN town hall. Jennings told Jeff Jarvis, a professor of journalism at the City University of New York, that for someone who had been called the next Hitler, Trump had a lot of people using that description who were eager to meet him.
WATCH:
“All the rhetoric that came from the left, from the Democrats, from the White House, from Kamala Harris and everyone else before the election, all of the rhetoric, the fascism, the Hitler, the Nazi rally, it was all a bunch of BS,” Jennings said after noting that “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski met with Trump.
“I just reread Hannah Arendt’s ‘The Origins of Totalitarianism,’ and I cannot tell you how relevant it is to today. What has gone on in totalitarian regimes before is what is happening in this country right now,” Jarvis claimed in response. “It is fascism. His generals called him fascist. Joe Scarborough called him fascist, and now the fascist is in charge and it is journalism’s job to cover it that way, not to back off and say okay, well that’s it, we lost, let the fascism happen. No.”
Dec. 2: Jennings Makes A CNN Panel Erupt With One Question About Merrick Garland
The day after Biden’s Dec. 1 announcement that he was granting a pardon to his son, Hunter, Jennings asked a CNN panel a simple question after he referenced Biden’s statement that claimed Hunter had been “singled out.”
WATCH:
“Can I ask you a question?” Jennings asked during the discussion. “Do you all think that Merrick Garland should be fired because of this corruption at the DOJ?”
“I don’t think there’s corruption at the DOJ,” panelist Leigh McGowan responded. “I think the concern is the future DOJ is going to be corrupted.”
Later, Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York claimed Hunter Biden’s charges were “trumped up” as he and podcast host Leigh McGowan ranted about the probe into the president’s son.
Dec. 9: Jennings Heats Things Up By Revealing Who “One Of The Good Guys” Is
After a Manhattan jury acquitted Daniel Penny on a criminally negligent homicide charge Dec. 9, Jennings triggered a heated exchange after he called Penny “one of the good guys” during a panel discussion on “CNN NewsNight.”
WATCH:
““Yeah, let me let me just help you understand. If you‘re on the American left tonight, here‘s my chart. The good guys today: Daniel Penny. The bad guys: Luigi Mangione. It seems to me —” Jennings said, before he was interrupted by “CNN NewsNight” guest host Audie Cornish interrupted, leading to a contentious back-and-forth.
“People on the left — people on the left can’t seem to — can’t seem to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys,” Jennings said, later adding, “We had people praising Luigi and attacking Penny!”
Dec. 17: Jennings Tells Dem To Her Face Her Comment Was The ‘Nuttiest Thing’ He’d Heard
After ABC settled a defamation suit filed by Trump over comments made by “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos, Jennings and Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky clashed over whether the media was pro-Trump or anti-Trump.
WATCH:
“Do you know what I’m so tired of, Scott?” Roginsky told Jennings. “The number one cable news network, Fox News. The number one paper by circulation, The Wall Street Journal. Number three paper by circulation, the New York Post. The number one person on the radio, Sean Hannity. The number one person on podcast, Joe Rogan. All of these people are Trump supporters. What — what media are you talking about that’s anti-Trump?”
After a brief back-and-forth, Jennings cut Roginsky off after she claimed conservatives “control everything.”
“I mean, of all the things I’ve heard you say out here, that might be the nuttiest,” Jennings responded.
