When Americans think of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris they think of many things, but no one will ever mistake them for unifying figures. And as America steamrolls toward the most consequential election of our lifetimes, the truth is that Biden and Harris are not even united themselves.
In fact, it looks like the outgoing president is attempting to sabotage the Harris campaign down the final stretch. It has been an amazing thing to see Biden, the veteran campaigner, going out of his way to say things in public he knows he should not say. By labeling seventy-four million voters of former President Donald Trump as “garbage” and stating his desire to “lock up” the former president, Harris and the Democrats have been forced to deal with “clean up on aisle nine” messes when they need them least.
These two so-called “gaffes” by Biden are unmitigated disasters for Harris. Biden’s “garbage” comment, which came at a time when Harris is still introducing herself to — and losing ground with — undecided working-class voters of all backgrounds, must have sent shockwaves through the Harris campaign. As Trump rides in a garbage truck and works at McDonald’s as a fry cook, Biden insults hard working Americans everywhere.
For an election that appears to be coming down to the wire, high-profile miscues like this can have real world consequences. Look no further than Hillary Clinton in 2016 when she dismissed Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” This unforced error was a factor in shifting enough votes to move razor thin contests in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to the Trump column.
And ever since the Biden-Harris Department of Justice made the decision to raid Mar-a-Lago two years ago, Democrats have had to walk a tightrope when it comes to charges that they are weaponizing our justice system for political purposes. So, when Biden goes out and admits that he supports putting his party’s chief political opponent behind bars, it makes it appear as though the Democrats have in fact removed the blindfold from Lady Justice and are weaponizing our nation’s sacred judicial system to help them compete in elections.
After two phony impeachments against Trump, four flimsy political indictments, non-stop civil suits trying to bankrupt him, and dangerous rhetoric on the left leading to two assassination attempts, Biden’s and Harris’ unity promises are falling flat and rightly so. Sure, the undynamic duo likes to talk a lot about unifying the country, but their records show that it’s just a hollow campaign slogan.
Harris has made a career doing the bidding of the radical left — and let’s face it, that warped agenda has never included anything about uniting America. The American people know full well that Harris didn’t become the most liberal senator in America by being a unifier; she didn’t promise to ban fracking to be seen as a unifier; and she certainly didn’t open our southern border in hopes of unifying our country.
But Harris never lets the facts get in the way of a good story. So now, with only a few days until Election Day, Harris’s closing argument that she is a unifier is going to backfire miserably. The American people see that Harris has had four years to unite America and she chose to do the opposite. The same goes for her failures with regard to the inflation crisis, open-border crisis and crime crisis that her reckless policies created.
The other problem with Harris’ 11th hour conversion to “a uniter, not a divider” is that she’s spent weeks demonstrating to the American people who she really is, which is a puppet of the Trump-deranged left. San Francisco liberal Harris and her left-wing army of surrogates have wasted her entire candidacy calling the former president everything from a fascist, to a dictator, to an existential threat to democracy. This has the American people wondering why Harris didn’t use her time on the campaign trail to talk about how she would fix the economy or secure our southern border.
When it comes to Biden, many people are asking how a seasoned politician could be so careless with his words at this critical juncture. Well, it could be worth exploring the idea that perhaps Ol’ Joe has a motive for making those rookie mistakes. Maybe he is bitter and angry about the coup that Harris, former President Barack Obama, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulled on him after he was chosen by fourteen million Democratic primary voters to be their 2024 nominee for president. For the 81-year-old Biden and his confidants, it is all about legacy now; did anyone really think they were going to take the embarrassing and undemocratic switcheroo made at his expense sitting down? I don’t think so.
There is a good reason that Biden did not attend Harris’ recent rally on the National Mall to show Democrat unity. And there is a reason that Biden is absent from Harris campaign rallies in swing states. It has become rather obvious that things are far from copacetic at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But one thing is for certain, Trump is sitting in a far stronger position according to battleground state polls than he was in both 2016 and 2020. Geniuses on the Democrat side are wondering at this very moment whether Biden was the safer bet after all.
