Last week, the Biden campaign made a stop at the San Francisco event, Welcome to Manny’s, and met with with drag queens. Welcome to Manny’s, a venue that encourages engagement with various civic figures and prides itself on being “unapologetically queer and unapologetically political,” shared the image of Mrs. Biden with five drag queens.

This event follows the Biden administration’s former stunts with drag queens. In December 2022, President Biden invited drag queen activist Marti Cummings to the White House for the signing of the “Respect for Marriage Act.” Cummings’ attendance became controversial after past social media posts were revealed, some of which were accused of showcasing child grooming. Additionally, another post showed Cummings’ support for Drag Queen Story Hour, where he expressed his commitment to spreading joy and acceptance.

The White House has also faced criticism for its summer pride month celebration, during which transgender activist Rose Montoya and others were seen flashing their bare chests. After receiving intense backlash, these individuals were banned from future White House events.

Overall, the Biden administration’s public embrace of drag queens and the LGBT community is emblematic of its stance on these issues but has led to polarized reactions. While some see this as a step forward in acceptance and inclusion, others view it as controversial and inappropriate, particularly in light of the nation’s ongoing challenges with rising prices and crime.
