“Tri-State Tornado” (Mar. 18, 1925)
This tornado didn’t just stick to one confined area. It walloped multiple states, the most deadly in Murphysboro, Illinois where 695 people perished, the largest by a tornado in any city in the history of the U.S. 33 other deaths occurred in De Soto Illinois.
“There were at least 9 total tornadoes on this March day, claiming a total of 747 lives in 7 states (Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky),” notes The Weather Channel.
