Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger heavily criticized President Donald Trump for tweeting a quote by an evangelical pastor who said that the possibility of civil strife born out of impeachment could lead to civil war. (Daily Caller)
I have visited nations ravaged by civil war. @realDonaldTrump I have never imagined such a quote to be repeated by a President. This is beyond repugnant. https://t.co/a5Bae7bP7g

Pastor Robert Jeffress said, “If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced last week that she would commence a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump. Pelosi was moved to action over the content of a July 25 telephone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, when the president urged his counterpart to investigate the activities of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.
Jeffress has been a firm supporter of Trump and has urged other evangelical Christians to be so too. He recently praised the president for choosing to speak about religious freedom and persecution at the United Nations rather than pandering to environmentalists. Jeffress said, “What president in history would have the guts to do what President Trump is doing?” The pastor has called evangelicals who refuse to support Trump “spineless morons.”
He raised the ire of Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney — a Mormon — who called Jeffress a “religious bigot” when he dismissed Mormonism as a heresy. Romney insisted that the pastor should not be invited to speak at the opening of the new United States embassy in Jerusalem.
Jeffress is a Fox News contributor and made the comments retweeted by Trump on Fox & Friends.
