A Florida man arrested after attacking a Walmart employee faces additional charges after threatening to kill President Trump in Arabic as police detained him.
Mohammed Omar Haji Mohammed, 36, tried to slash the employee with a pair of scissors during a July 8 confrontation at a Fort Lauderdale Walmart. As he was being arrested, he began shouting in Arabic, which was recorded on police body cameras.
The FBI translated Mohammed’s statements. Mohammed said, among other things, “We are coming for you, Trump. We are coming for you with knives. God will send angels to destroy you.” and “I need Trump cut. I want to cut two portions.”
He was charged with threatening the President, but Mohammed was already on the FBI’s radar two days before the Walmart confrontation.
“Mohammed had made suspicious Facebook posts about doing something that would be newsworthy,” The Associated Press reports “Those posts caught the attention of an anonymous tipster who let authorities know two days before the Walmart incident that Mohammed seemed to be poised to take some action and had recently been fired from his job at a local Quickies restaurant.”
“Whoever knows why I came to America wait for the urgent news on television screens and victory is from Allah,” one of Mohammed’s posts read.
Mohammed faces state charges of aggravated assault, battery against a police officer and disorderly conduct for the attack on the Walmart employee and a federal charge of making threats against the President.
“Court records do not list an attorney for him. The records do not say where Mohammed is originally from,” the AP reports. Threatening the president carries a maximum prison sentence of five years. If he is not a citizen, he could be deported.
