Republican Congressman Mike Conaway is expected to announce his retirement at a press conference today in Midland, Texas, according to multiple GOP insiders close to the representative.

If he does make the announcement, Conaway would become the fifth Republican to announce retirement in the past two weeks, Politico reported.
Conaway, 71, is the top Republican on the House Agriculture Committee. He also led the House Intelligence Committee’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election in 2017 when Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes agreed to bow out over since-cleared ethics charges.
The former accountant served in leadership in the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and even uncovered an embezzlement scheme there, reported Politico.
Conaway joined Congress in 2005, and his central Texas district is one of the most conservative in the country. Republicans dominate all levels of the government, typically winning more than 70 percent of the vote.
