A former MSNBC host blasted the network for spreading “Russian collusion” conspiracy theories, as liberalism’s descent into paranoid madness is leaving more and more liberals unable to deal with reality.
Krystal Ball, now working for “Hill.TV,” hammered MSNBC and Rachel Maddow in particular for building up the debunked conspiracy theory that Donald Trump worked with the Russian government to steal Hillary Clinton’s emails and would be sent to prison for it, which left liberals mentally unable to cope when former FBI Director Robert Mueller’s investigation found no evidence whatsoever for it.
“After watching over seven hours of a spectacle that felt much more cruel than enlightening, I can no longer avoid pondering a question, which honestly gives me no joy to ponder,” Ball told Hill.TV. “Just how much damage has MSNBC in particular done to the left? Now, this critique is not meant to be personal to the anchors and the commentators there, many of whom I know — some of whom are actually close friends having worked at that network for five years, but nearly all of whom got swept up in the ratings bubble that was feverish Russian conspiracy theories.”
“I dare to say, some talent did drink more deeply of the Russia conspiracy than others,” said Ball. “Rachel Maddow, you’ve got some explaining to do.”
MSNBC’s role in pushing Russian conspiracy theories can be seen in how they’ve spiraled among liberals.
A December 2016 YouGov poll found 52% of Hillary Clinton voters believed it’s either “definitely true” or “possibly true” that Russians not only colluded with Trump, but actually “tampered with vote tallies in order to get Donald Trump elected President.”
There is no evidence whatsoever that happened and it’s so crazy no elected Democrat has publicly claimed it.
Despite that, after three years of MSNBC’s relentless reporting of “Russian collusion,” when YouGov asked the question again in March 2019, the number had risen to 67%.
While the share of Democrats who believed the conspiracy theory had skyrocketed, it rose only 4% among independents (from 33% to 37%) and was unchanged among Republicans at 18%.
Conspiracy theories have long held deep roots among the left. A 2006 Scripps Howard poll found 51% of Democrats believe George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks ahead of time and either allowed them to proceed or planned the attacks himself.
Maddow herself was forced to issue an on-air apology to former Congressman Steve Stockman after falsely claiming he was given advance warning of the Oklahoma City bombing, a completely false claim spread by online liberal conspiracy theorists.
