Attorney General William Barr’s latest orders reinstate executions of federal prisoners on death row, after a 15-year hiatus.
“We owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system,” the attorney general said.
Several prominent Democrats, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Ilhan Omar, expressed their dismay with the decision.
Barr promises more executions will come.
For now, the Bureau of Prisons summarily scheduled executions for five of the most vicious killers on death row.
