A Democrat congressman appears to have threatened President Trump in a bizarre CNN interview.
Appearing on CNN’s “Situation Room” Rep. Jim Himes, a Connecticut Democrat, was asked by host Wolf Blitzer if he agreed with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comments she wanted to see President Trump thrown in prison.
Himes went on a strange tangent in which he claimed to have a “lizard brain” that compelled him to see harmful things happen to Trump.
“Look, the lizard brain that I have says I hope bad things happen to this man because he has been so destructive to our Republic, to the concept of democracy, to the concept that internationally we are a light unto the nations. So, yes, I have my emotional reactions,” Himes said.
The term “lizard brain” often describes a primitive mental capacity, with an inclination toward violence.
Himes’ strange comments appear to stem from a frustrated belief Trump will not be impeached, perhaps prompting the Connecticut Democrat to wish Trump’s presidency ends by other means.
“So what I really hope—and this is me personally speaking—what I really hope is that if impeachment is not a mechanism of accountability, and I will tell you flat out that I can’t imagine anything happening, anything at all happening that would cause the Senate to convict and, therefore, remove this president, so impeachment stops in the House in my opinion,” said Himes, angry over the prospect of not being able to undo the lawful results of the 2016 election.
“Whether one nasty individual, you know, spends his years in jail is a lot less important to me than the redemption of the values that animate this country,” said Himes, referring to Trump as a “nasty individual.”
This isn’t the first time Himes has spoken of Trump’s effect on his mental health.
In a December 12, 2016, interview on CNN’s “New Day,” Himes said Trump’s election “pushed me over the edge,” claimed the President was “unfit for office” before claiming the Electoral College was created as part of a plan to elect Trump.
