Mueller’s investigation brought down Paul Manafort, by all appearances, for good.
However, his crimes have no connection to President Trump or his brief time as the president’s campaign manager.
After being on the FBI’s radar since at least 2014, Manafort’s consulting work in Ukraine and alleged financial, real estate, and money laundering dealings caught up with him.
His conviction means only Donald Trump can keep him out of prison now. Manafort’s sentencing is set for February 8. Analysts expect a lengthy prison term.
