After seemingly agreeing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about an alleged sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Christine Blasey Ford is now demanding a “full investigation” by the FBI before agreeing to attend any “interrogation” into her accusations. (Fox News)
In response, Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, who said Ford is still invited to speak to the committee, countered that “nothing the FBI or any other investigator does would have any bearing on what Dr. Ford tells the committee, so there is no reason for any further delay.”
Lisa Banks, one of Ford’s lawyers, told CNN that her client “will talk to the committee,” but she is not prepared for the hearing on Monday.
She said her client has been faced with threats and she has been figuring out how to protect her family.
“There should be no rush to a hearing,” Banks said.
Republican leadership confirmed they “took immediate action” to ensure both Ford and Kavanaugh could be fairly heard.
Moreover, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) approached the FBI about opening an investigation. Law enforcement declined to, explaining the realities of the case made it impossible to prove the validity of Ford’s claims.
Ford’s sudden insistence on an FBI investigation, which federal agents have declared “totally inappropriate,” throws the possibility of another hearing into doubt altogether.
Sen. Grassley confirmed he’ll nix the proceeding if Ford refuses to testify.
