Spenser Rapone, the Army Ranger who gained notoriety after pictures emerged of him in his West Point uniform holding a “Communism Will Win” sign went viral – was given a less-than-honorable discharge from the Army this month.
Members of the U.S. Armed Forces are explicitly prohibited from expressing political views while in uniform.
The historically ignorant Rapone also tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt while on duty.
West Point and the Army launched a subsequent joint investigation. Coincidentally, Rapone’s mentor at West Point, Professor Rasheed Hosein, was on administrative leave at the time. A spokesperson stressed that was unrelated to Rapone.
If social media activity is a good indicator of one’s behavior, it appears Rapone is content being known as a disaffected veteran and socialist war resister.
