Despite a recent spate of good news for Republicans (RELATED: Four Top-Tier Races Move Toward GOP), the Democratic Party has an outside shot at retaking control of the Senate come November. America’s top political prognosticators agree.
Frankly, it’s easy to see why with their army of megadonors and a mainstream media that’s barely right of Soviet-era propaganda.
But big government progressives can’t match the talent and tenacity of high-caliber elected officials. Officials like Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith – who’s flegdling career got a big boost thanks to an endorsement from Newt Gingrich.
Cindy is Mississipi’s Junior Senator, a conservative Republican, chosen to replace the ailing Thad Chochran.
However, the political left, reinvigorated by surprising victories in Trump-friendly Alabama and Pennsylvania’s 18th District is determined to make this race competitive.
Mississippi’s demographics favor Republicans, but the harsh realities of this race make the outcome far from certain. The Magnolia State holds a jungle primary, meaning every candidate from all parties appears on the same ballot. If the leading candidate does not secure a majority of the vote (51 percent) there’s a runoff three weeks later.
With control of the Senate and President Trump’s agenda on a razor’s edge, former Speaker Gingrich felt compelled to pledge his support for Cindy.
The conservative icon succinctly said in an email to supporters, “With the possibility of a runoff election in late November, Cindy is our best hope for cementing our Republican majority with one final Senate win.”
