Just a day after the Bush family announced that Barbara Bush was in failing health, her granddaughter described the former first lady as being in “great spirits.”
“We are grateful for her,” an emotional Jenna Bush Hager said on the TODAY show. “She is the best grandma anybody could have ever had or have. Barbara [Bush Hager’s twin sister] and I talked to her last night. She’s in great spirits, and she’s a fighter, she’s an enforcer.”
Bush, the matriarch of the political family, has declined further medical treatment for a life-threatening illness, after consulting with her family and friends.
Bush Hager said, “She reminded me not to believe everything you read. We’re grateful for her, for everybody’s prayers and thoughts, and just know the world is better because she’s in it.”
