In the wake of the left’s calls for more gun control after the Parkland school shooting, more Americans are buying guns and are receiving firearms training (RELATED: 20 Quotes You Absolutely Must Hear About Guns).

According to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NCIS, March was the 4th highest month in history. NCIS performed 2,767,699 background checks. NCIS background checks occur when consumers purchase new firearms and when gun owners apply for concealed carry permits and other licenses.

Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting estimates that gun sales went up 11.4 percent during March 2018. Gun shops throughout the country report that business has been picking up due to the gun control talk and the booming economy.

“I think fear buying is only part of the equation. A more important variable is the overall economic outlook right now. The economy is growing, people have jobs, and they have money in their pockets. With a more positive outlook on their future, people are spending more money on luxury goods like firearms,” Justin Anderson, marketing director for Hyatt Guns, told the Washington Examiner. “Our sales are literally off the charts right now. We’re currently at nearly 80 percent above where we were at the same time last year. I expect this trend to continue,” he added.

Not only are gun sales up in general, but AR-15 sales, in particular, are spiking. The AR-15 has long been the target of proposed gun bans. Gun shops from Mississippi to Florida report massive sales increases for the weapon.

The coverage of the school shooting and the resulting push for gun control has increased demand for concealed carry permits. Trainers from all over the country are noticing that more people are interested in learning how to defend themselves.

Tim Schmidt, president and founder of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, said that February was one of its best months ever. He estimates that new memberships increased by 50 percent.

Another trainer, Matthew Maruster of Zenith Defense in Ohio, said he sees four times the typical web traffic.
