Dan Crenshaw was on patrol in Helmand province of Afghanistan in 2012 when an IED blast ripped through his body. Crenshaw, a Navy SEAL, was medevaced out of the area and put into a medically induced coma. When he awoke, he was totally blind. Doctors told him he would never see again. Were it not for undergoing risky, experimental treatment — he might not have. Crenshaw regained sight in one eye but lost the other.

The major physical setback could not stop Crenshaw.

He redeployed, taking the fight back to the enemy even though he was one eye down. When he returned home to Texas, Crenshaw married the woman of his dreams, enrolled at Harvard and remained living the American dream. Even thought the Taliban took his eye, they could not take his freedom or American spirit.

Now, at the age of 34, Crenshaw is running for Congress in Texas.
