On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people participated in anti-gun rallies across the nation. The largest one was in Washington D.C., which fell short of attendance expectations (RELATED: The Glaring Irony Behind Rapper’s Anti-Gun Performance).

Attendees expressed their displeasure with everything from the NRA to guns themselves. Chief among the demands of the marchers was a ban on so-called assault rifles.

Cabot Phillips at Campus Reform hit the streets of the D.C. march, and he asked attendees if they supported an assault weapons ban. Naturally, nearly all of the march attendees did.

However, he asked them to define what an assault weapon was.

One girl admitted, “I kinda do, but I kinda don’t.”

“Um, I mean no. But ‘assault weapon,’ does that sound safe to you?” said another attendee.

“It’s an arm…like a gun for instance that you can buy at a shop pretty easily, that can like cause more deaths than one I guess,” added another marcher.

One attendee claimed that nearly as many people were killed every year by assault weapons than in car crashes. In 2016, 40,200 people perished in car crashes according to the National Safety Council. In 2016, there were 11,000 gun murders in the U.S. Of those murders, rifles, in general, were responsible for 3 percent of them, according to the FBI.

Philips then asked the attendees if they supported banning all guns.

One attendee said, “if you’re asking me, any gun that isn’t a pistol should be banned.” Handguns are responsible for the vast majority of gun murders in this country.

Another attendee revealed, “I’m not even against just assault weapons, I’m against most guns.”

Many called the Second Amendment “outdated.” Another attendee said the Constitution itself “outdated.”

The anti-gun movement’s lack of basic knowledge of guns and violent crime continues to be a problem.
