Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, a Republican, has been under siege for the past month after a report emerged he threatened his mistress with revenge porn to keep quiet over an extramarital affair.

According to the woman, Greiten’s hairdresser, the governor took a photograph of her without her consent while she was blindfolded and restrained. Greitens, widely regarded as a rising star in the Republican Party, allegedly told her, “You’re never going to mention my name, or there will be pictures everywhere.”

Greitens admitted he had an affair but vigorously denies the blackmail allegation. The governor and his wife released a joint statement saying they’ve “emerged stronger” from this ordeal.

Yesterday evening, things went from bad to worse. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s office arrested Greitens, with deputies leading the governor away in cuffs to the St. Louis Justice Center. Authorities charged him with first-degree felony invasion of privacy.

In a statement, Greitens denied committing any crime and expressed faith in the justice system.
