Last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi got in deep trouble when she claimed that the $1,000 bonuses being given by corporations to their employees as a result of tax reform were “crumbs.”
It looks like she didn’t learn her lesson.
At a town hall event in Massachusetts, the ailing one percenter reiterated her claim that the bonuses were chump change, compared to the benefits that companies were receiving.
“I say crumbs, they mock me in ads for saying that,” she said. “Compared to the banquet they give at the high end.”
President Trump didn’t waste time in attacking Pelosi’s gaffe, comparing it to Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” comment, where she slandered half of Trump’s supporters – one-quarter of the American people – for being irredeemable racists.
“That could be like ‘deplorable,’” Trump suggested, referring to Pelosi’s “crumbs” comment while addressing Republican leaders at a retreat in West Virginia. “Those two words — they seem to have a resemblance. I hope it has the same meaning.”
“But she called it crumbs when people are getting $2,000 and 3,000 dollars and $1,000 — that’s not crumbs,” he added. “It’s a lot of money!”
