Earlier this year, singer Kid Rock teased a Senate run in his home state of Michigan — going as far as to sell “Kid Rock for Senate” merchandise on his website.

But rather than keep the proceeds, Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, is donating the $122,000 take from merchandise sales to a group affiliated with the College Republicans.

The proceeds will go to CRNC Action, an affiliate of the College Republican National Committee. The organization apparently made an impression on Ritchie when they organized voter registration drives at his concerts last year.

Ritchie caused a sensation when he floated the idea of a run — but, weeks later, poured cold water on the prospect, telling radio host Howard Stern, “F— no, I’m not running for Senate. Are you f—ing kidding me? Who couldn’t figure that out?”

“I have people that work for me, they’re on the in, I’m like, f— no we’re not doing it,” he added at the time. “But let’s roll with it for a little while. This is awesome.”
