A Georgia firefighter is being hailed as a hero after he caught a child who was thrown out of a burning building earlier this month.
The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department was called to Avondale Forest Apartments on January 3 in order to put out a blaze that wound up injuring around a dozen people. Captain Scott Stroup was among the firefighters on scene, and he was caught on helmet-camera video catching a young girl whose desperate father dropped her while climbing down from the third floor balcony.
Fire officials spoke to reporters about the incident, and they said there were several other moments where they had to catch children who were dropped out of the building to escape.
“We were catching babies like a football, literally,” Capt. Eric Jackson said to CBS. “There were adults that were on the balcony that were dropping their babies right into our arms. We had a couple firefighters catching babies, so it was just really incredible.”
