Three people were injured in a significant fire at New York City’s Trump Tower on Monday morning.
One firefighter went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and two building workers received treatment on the scene for minor injuries.
President Trump and his family – who called the New York City skyscraper’s 66th-floor penthouse home before moving into the White House – were in Washington at the time.
According to Eric Trump, President Trump’s son who works in the building as the headquarters of the Trump Organization, the fire was sparked by an electrical problem in the cooling tower on the building’s roof.
“The New York Fire Department was here within minutes and did an incredible job,” Eric Trump said, via Twitter. “The men and women of the #FDNY are true heroes and deserve our most sincere thanks and praise!”
The city is still investigating the specific causes of the fire, but officials have said that flames didn’t penetrate the inside of the building, and instead were confined to the roof.
