Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered the Justice Department to investigate the Uranium One deal — the Hillary Clinton scandal where, during her term as Secretary of State, a Russian energy company wound up with control of 20 percent of U.S. uranium.

The Department of Justice will interview multiple FBI agents, to get to the bottom of this burgeoning controversy. That fulfills a promise the DOJ had made to Congress last month.

If the DOJ decides there’s enough questionable behavior, they would likely appoint a special counsel to dig deeper — à la Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

If a special counsel were, in fact, appointed to investigate, it could be a significant headache for the Clintons.

In 2010, the Obama Administration approved the transaction that sold strategic U.S. uranium mining facilities to a Russian company, Uranium One.

Hillary was just one of nine agency heads who okayed the controversial sale — but her conduct raised eyebrows when press reports revealed that key players in the deal from Russia had contributed millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation soon after. Former President Bill Clinton was subsequently paid $500,000 to deliver a speech in Moscow to a Russian investment bank that was involved in the transaction.

Hillary has denied any improper conduct over the Uranium One scandal — but, now that the Justice Department is beginning to dig deeper, the truth may finally come out.
