Congressman and House Freedom Caucus member, Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), is expected to announce his resignation shortly, according to authoritative sources on Capitol Hill.
When asked for a comment, Franks seemed coy, merely saying, “We will have a statement a little bit later, but that’s all I can tell you right now.” Franks continued, “the statement will explain.”
It’s unclear why Franks is stepping down, but at least one fellow Republican official said there were allegations of inappropriate behavior that have dogged Representative Franks for years.
The Arizona Republican had apparently planned to run for Senate in 2012 but abruptly scrapped his campaign.
