It was fun while it lasted, but musician Kid Rock has officially ruled out a run for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

Ending months of speculation, the rocker went on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show to say, quite succinctly, “F*** no, I’m not running for Senate.”

“Are you f***ing kidding me?” he asked. “Who couldn’t figure that out?”

Kid Rock added, “I’m releasing a new album. I’m going on tour, too. Are you f***ing sh***ing me?”

He explained that, while he openly toyed with the idea of running against incumbent Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, he was never serious about it. “I have people that work for me; they’re on the in, I’m like, ‘F*** no we’re not doing it. But let’s roll with it for a little while. This is awesome.'”

Kid Rock himself fueled speculation about a Senate run when the musician began selling “Kid Rock for U.S. Senate” and criticizing Stabenow at a concert.

Had Kid Rock mounted a real campaign against Stabenow, it’s not entirely clear how he would have done. In August, polls indicated he had a slight lead in a hypothetical match-up. In September, one placed him 18 points behind the Democrat incumbent.
