Two illegal immigrants were arrested with two pounds of crystal meth—but, apprehended in a sanctuary city, they were simply given bail.
Gabriel Penuelas, 38, and Salvador Aguilera, 39, were pulled over at a routine traffic stop in Watsonville, California. Officers caught them with meth and a loaded gun. Also, there were outstanding warrants for both men.
Police later searched Penuelas’ home, where they found another gun—and more than two pounds of meth.
A judge set Penuelas’ bail at $10,000, and Aguilera’s bail was set at $30,000—a minuscule amount, considering the severity of their crimes.
Watsonville has been a sanctuary city since April 2017, protecting illegal immigrants from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. The entire state of California is currently considering becoming a “sanctuary state.”
