A civil rights lawyer from Austin, Texas, thinks Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos should be raped.
The shocking statement—from Rob Ranco, an attorney working with the Carlson Law Firm—came over Twitter last week. Ranco said:
“I’m not wishing for it… but I’d be ok if #BetsyDevos was sexually assaulted,” he wrote, followed by the hashtags #SexualAssault and #TitleIX.
The statement came in response to DeVos rescinding a 2011 “Dear Colleague” letter from the Obama Department of Education—which has been criticized by many for creating “kangaroo courts” on college campuses that unfairly target men accused of sexual assault, denying them due process.
“The truth is that the system established by the prior administration has failed too many students,” said DeVos. “Survivors, victims of a lack of due process, and campus administrators have all told me that the current approach does a disservice to everyone involved.”
DeVos hasn’t outlined new regulations to deal with campus sexual assault. But that hasn’t stopped the liberal left—people like Rob Ranco—from raking her over the coals, and accusing her of supporting rapists.
After his initial tweet, Ranco doubled down on why DeVos deserved to be sexually assaulted:
“Perhaps Betsy doesn’t understand how horrible rape is,” he tweeted, several hours after his initial tweet. “She’s made the world more dangerous for my daughters. I need her to understand.”
However, after his horrifying tweet went viral, Ranco was forced to apologize two days later:
“My tweet from Friday was a mistake,” he said on Sunday. “I take full responsibility for it. It was my mistake and nobody else’s, and I apologize. I’ll be working continuously moving forward to make up for my mistake. I hope that Secretary DeVos and anyone else who was offended, impacted, shocked by my actions that they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”
