Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) said Wednesday that Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D., Calif.) actions on the House Intelligence Committee have more to do with his political ambitions than the search for relevant information.

Gowdy brushed off Schiff’s comments to reporters that he acted as White House adviser Jared Kushner’s “second lawyer” during Kushner’s private testimony before the committee. He said that Schiff was frustrated at Democrats’ inability to extract any politically advantageous answers from Kushner during Tuesday’s committee hearing.

“The Democrats ran out of good questions, but they didn’t run out of questions,” Gowdy said. “So I think that’s Adam’s frustration that Jared Kushner did not tell him what he wanted to hear from a political ambition standpoint.”

“This investigation has been very good for the Adam Schiff for Senate campaign,” he added. “But yesterday was not good for him.”
