An immigrant from Africa is charged with the murders of two Boston doctors—who were discovered in their upscale 11th-floor apartment with their throats slit.

Police arrived at the scene, where they found Bampumim Teixeira, 30. Teixeira was standing near the bodies of Dr. Richard Field, 49, and his fiancee, Dr. Lina Bolanos, who were found their hands bound and their throats slashed. The walls of the apartment were allegedly smeared with the victims’ blood and featured a threatening message.

After Teixeira pulled a gun on the police, they opened fire. Teixeira survived, and is currently in the hospital.
It’s unclear what Teixeira’s relationship was with Field and Bolanos. He was employed as a concierge in their luxury apartment building from October 2015 to April 2016.

Teixeira left the job after he was convicted of two bank robberies, committed in 2014 and 2016. He was sentenced to 364 days in jail, and was released just last month.

Had Teixeira been sentenced to a full year in jail—just one day longer than his actual sentence—he could have been deported after his release. Teixeira’s sentence was allegedly a “loophole” pushed by his defense attorneys that would allow him to stay in the country after his release from jail.

It’s not clear if Teixeira, who was born in the African country of Guinea-Bissau and grew up in the Cape Verde Islands, is in the country legally or illegally.

Teixeira has not yet been formally charged with either murder.
