At a campaign rally for her husband’s 2020 re-election campaign on Saturday, the First Lady took the stage to recite the Lord’s Prayer. While she was warmly and enthusiastically received by the crowd at Orlando-Melbourne Airport, liberals online had a different reaction—attacking Melania for just about everything.
Some attacked her faith, like Twitter user, Stefan Plattner—who complained that Melania’s prayer “makes Jesus turn in his grave.”
Another user, Nicole Angeleen, dropped all pretense and told Melania that “you’re not Christian”!
Others targeted Melania, the first foreign-born First Lady in more than two centuries, for her distinctive Slovenian accent:
Twitter user, Joe Carnahan, said Melania’s prayer “sounds like someone getting cursed to become a ‘Dracula’.”
Another user, Adrian Short, said: “With an hour’s practice I could probably say the Lord’s Prayer better in Slovene than Melania Trump does it in English.” Melania, of course, fluently speaks more languages than any other First Lady in history. (She speaks six languages—two more than even First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who famously spoke four.)
Other users, like Harry Benson, went after Melania’s reputation—saying that the former supermodel recited the prayer “like a whore in confession after a night of escorting.”
Melania Trump has, so far, been a far less visible than many other recent First Ladies—but, based on the hostile and sexist reaction from the left whenever she takes a public role, it’s not hard to see why.
