Harry Reid may be starting to lose it in his old age. The Senate Democratic Leader launched into a totally unhinged attack on FBI leader James Comey, suggesting that he’s violating the Hatch Act. Per CNN:
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said on Sunday that FBI Director James Comey may have violated the Hatch Act, barring political activity by federal employees, through a late election season letter to Congress about the scope of the bureau’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email service as secretary of state.
Comey’s letter on Friday to congressional committee chairs said the FBI is reviewing newly discovered emails that might be linked to Clinton’s private server. The new emails were found several weeks ago, law enforcement officials told CNN Sunday, but the FBI did not disclose them until Friday. The timing raises questions about why the information was released just days before the election.
“I am writing to inform you that my office has determined that these actions may violate the Hatch Act,” Reid said in his letter to Comey. “Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law.”
There has been no immediate response from the FBI.
South Carolina congressman Trey Gowdy wasted no time responding. In an interview with Fox News, the former prosecutor absolutely unloaded on Harry Reid:
Your reaction, Congressman?
REP. TREY GOWDY: Thank God he’s leaving, is my initial reaction. My second reaction is: I did not know Mormons used drugs. And anyone who is capable of sending out that press release has to be under the influence of something.
The person responsible for this fact pattern is Secretary Clinton.
Jim Comey did not tell her to use her private server. He did not say to mislead the public about whether or not you turned over all of your work emails. And he certainly didn’t say, Secretary Clinton, why don’t you say you neither sent nor received classified information. So, look, Senator Reid is a political hack and Jim Comey is a law enforcement officer.
That’s gotta sting.
Look. Conservatives and many liberals agree that the last FBI investigation into Clinton’s server reeked of impropriety. But where were Reid and company chiming in with concerns about impropriety when Loretta Lynch was chatting with Bill Clinton on his plane in the middle of an investigation into his wife? Or when Comey essentially rewrote the federal penal code to avoid prosecuting Clinton in the first place? Even if any of those interactions were legal, they created the appearance of gross impropriety.
This reopened investigation has nothing to do with Comey, and everything to do with Clinton. It’s clear that the FBI had little interest in prosecuting her, and Loretta Lynch’s DOJ had less. Had Clinton and her confidantes simply been straightforward with investigators about the scope of their activities, Comey’s reluctance to prosecute would have saved them the trouble of relitigating this one week before the election.
But the Clintons are simply incapable of telling the truth. As history has taught us, the only time a Clinton is ever straightforward is when there’s a woman and a locked door and Bubba’s feeling feisty. The rest of the time, it’s a lot of walking around the definition of what “is” is.
Harry Reid and the rest of Clinton inc. can blame everyone they want if this leads to her defeat at the ballot box, but they have no one to blame but themselves. As liberal reporter Michael Tracey noted:
Instead of screaming about Comey, maybe Democrats should reflect on why they rallied around a candidate with such severe legal problems.

If you were so concerned about potential FBI “interference,” maybe don’t nominate a candidate being investigated by the FBI for felonies?

We couldn’t say it better ourselves.
