A U.S. Army veteran suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder was kicked out of a Dollar Tree for bringing his service dog inside the store.

Joshua Schutt, an Army specialist from 2001 to 2004, took his 4-year-old German Shepard named Hero to a Dollar Tree in Mocksville, North Carolina, where an employee told him he couldn’t have the dog in the store.

Despite Schutt telling the employee that Hero was his service dog, he stood by his initial ban of the pooch.

“He says I want to see his papers,” Schutt told WGHP-TV.

“He refused to accept that and said, ‘I know the difference between a service dog and a comfort dog, and that’s a comfort dog,’” Schutt continued.
