……to protect the environment. That’s the claim of President Obama’s former Deputy CIA Director Mike Morell.
Morell was on the “Charlie Rose Show” on PBS and he said this, according to The Blaze:
“We didn’t go after oil wells — actually hitting oil wells that ISIS controls because we didn’t want to do environmental damage, and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure,” Morell told PBS host Charlie Rose. “So, now we’re hitting oil in trucks.”
He said the Obama administration wanted to limit “collateral damage” and keep infrastructure in place in territories for a time in the future when the Islamic State no longer controls them.
The forces fighting the Islamic State are nowhere near able to capture the territory any time soon. The Islamic State continues to expand in Syria, but it has been rolled back in parts of Iraq.
The Islamic State makes millions a day in oil revenue. The oil is smuggled into Turkey where it is sold on the open market.
